Sifnos is the birth place of many a great chef perhaps the most famous of them all is Nicholas Tselementes and also the chef Marko,
the island is known for her delicious cuisine and traditional dishes:

  • fried chick-pea pies (revithokeftedes)
  • manoura (fresh semi-soft cheese)
  • mizithra (cottage cheese)
  • green beans from the vineyard with garlic sauce
  • chick-peas roasted in the traditional way (cooked in sealed ceramic pots in wood-fired oven) 
  • caper salad (capers grow wild all over the island in the crevices of rocks)
  • roast lamb "mastelo" (the meat is roasted in the oven over branches from the vine with local red wine and dill - mastelo is the name given to the ceramic cooking pot)

  • almond paste cookies
  • bourekia (filo pastry filled with almonds, honey and sesame)
  • pasteli (sesame bar with honey)
  • "Loli"

  • honey pie (ingredients: honey and local cottage cheese)
