Handmade pottery workshops
Sifnos carries on today its long history of ceramic art passed on from generation to generation. The island's rich supply of raw materials (clay, water, sun) and the skilful hands of craftsmen have helped to develop this art. Everyday items such as kitchen utensils (cooking pots and pans), containers to transport water (large and small jugs, amphorae for wine and oil) and many other useful items such as the ceramic barbecue (foufou) were in ancient times the base of ceramic production on the island. These objects can be found in more than a dozen pottery shops on Sifnos today. The masters (known as tsikalades) give new life to memories and roots of a bygone era with the aesthetics of today and spread their art throughout Greece (Maroussi, Kalamata, Volos, Mani, Kythnos, Paros, Naxos).
