Red Beach

The red beach, unique in appearance with its alluring crimson cliffs rising above in stark contrast to the azure waters below, has massive appeal.  In geological terms this phenomenon is known as a rust red volcanic cone (the aftermath of volcanic eruptions) erosion and exposure to the elements has given the remaining solidified lava this tinge of red.  In the center of the cone you can actually see the source of the lava.

The beach can be accessed by foot from the church of Saint Nicholas in Arkrotiri (just by the archaeological excavations).  Visitors can park their car at the open parking space (next to the bus stop) then make a 5 minute walk (up and down hill) in order to get your first glimpse of the beach.

This is an organised beach with a canteen, and plenty of umbrellas for rent.

Another option is to take a beach hopping boat transfer.
