Museum of Prehistory of Santorini
The Thira Museum of Pre-History is quite exceptional (housing some of the famous wall frescos and the golden statue of the wild ram). The museum can be considered an extension of the archaeological site of Akrotiri housing some of the wall paintings and artifacts from the pinnacle of the city's achievements (1700 B.C.). Also on display are discoveries from many areas on the island dating from neolithic times (5000 B.C.) right up to 1700 B.C. showing the passage of many cultures and civilisations through the Aegean region over a long pre-historic period.
