Local Food and Dishes
The most well known snack is ladenia, a unique product made of a dough base, fresh tomato, onion and olive oil (Greek pizza)
You can find ladenia, tirenia (cheese pie with a kind of bread dough), elenia (bread filled with olives from Koroni) and rusks with lentisk seeds at the bakeries of the island.
Other products worth trying on Kimolos are the excellent honey, xino (sour fresh skimmed-milk cheese), manoura (dry cheese wrapped with grapes must), small cucumbers (round, with stripes, crispy and sweet when ripe), capers and tomato paste. Also rusks (twice baked bread) sprinkled with the seeds from the lentisk bush
At the tavernas you can find fresh home made pasta of Kimolos, fried tomato pasties, Greek salad with cucumbers of Kimolos and xino.
Eat at the restaurant owned by Apostoli, "Kima", right on the beach
at Psathi.
At the "Meltemi" Manolis Galanos cooks local meat that you will enjoy in the courtyard with a panoramic view.
At "Kalamitsi" have a romantic dinner on the beach of the same name.
During Easter apart from tirenia you will also taste amarathenies (fennel pie), kolokithenies (corgette, squash pie) and honey-pie.
At weddings locals offer bread rolls with elaborate designs, sweet cookies and pasteli (sesame bars with honey) to the guests.
