Briefly
Ports - Marinas
At Kamares, the port, we find mooring for pasenger ships, sailing boats and small yachts.
From Faro, the old port of Sifnos, small boats make the trip to Paros, since the distance is very short.
A recently completed safe haven at Platys Gialos (2008) for fishermen became a marina for sailing boats and small yachts.
Heliport
The heliport is located at Exambela.
Capital
Apollonia is located at 3km from the port, famous for its nightlife in the main street we find lots of shops and bars.
Local transport
Local bus services, in proportion to the size of the island, are the most dense in the Cyclades. There are also several taxis just in case.
The Hotels
Accommodation can be found in all villages and settlements, the majority of hotels are found in Kamares and Platys Gialos. Sifnos offers all categories of accommodation, reaching at the top end of the market the 5 star Elies Resort Hotel. There are many small family-run premises, hotels, apartments, studios, guest houses and rooms to let. The inhabitants of Sifnos take great pride in and good care of their villages.
General
The same care and pride applies to the cuisine of Sifnos, another important facet of this island! Many famous Greek chefs, the most well known being Nicholas Tselementes, have "grown" from the humble kitchens of Sifnos. Families of Greek shipowners, potters and poets alike make up the rich tapestry of the place and its intellectual heritage. The atmosphere is one of "traditional cosmopolitanism" attracting on week-ends, public holidays and during summer the intellectual and social elite of Athens, escaping the drone of the capital. It is also an emerging wedding destination.
