Ports and marinas
Milos' most characteristic feature is her magnificent gulf, providing a natural harbour, which is possibly the largest in the Mediterranean. The bay of Adamas is a perfect spot to securely moor your boat, both for sailing and motorboats. The small port of Pollonia in the north can also accomodate a few boats, although piers are small and taken up mainly by local fishing boats. In Adamas it is possible for around 40 vessels over 30 ft. in length to dock at one time. This new safe haven in Adamas was constructed in 2000 with the support of the European Union. Water (non drinkable)electricity and refuelling services are available at Adamas. Naturally we have the arrival of all ferries at Adamas (several per day during summer).  The Gulf of Milos provides an excellent anchorage point for large cruise ships giving protection from the meltemi (during summer the prevailing northern winds of the Aegean) passengers can be comfortably tendered right to the dock in less than 10 mins.
Airport/Heliport
Milos airport is just 7 minutes drive from the harbour of Adamas receiving two flights per day all year round from Athens International Airport (38 seater turbo-prop) 25 mins duration with the carrier Olympic Air.  A fully equipped helicopter landing pad is found within the airport.  The landing strip provides facilities for night approaches.
The capital
Plaka is the capital of the island and also the uppermost village with its "Castro" rising to 250 metres above sea level. The village is famous for its spectacular eagle-eye views, pretty Cycladic architecture, narrow cobble-stoned streets and interesting churches. Also the archaeological and folk museums are located here.  Plaka is a pleasant spot to enjoy an aperitif whilst taking in the sun-set before having dinner at one of the village's great eating houses.
Accomodation
Milos is not over developed touristically and there are no huge hotel complexes but more smaller family run establishments with several very good boutique style hotels on offer. Most hotels are found in the Adamas area, also there are a good selection of traditional properties for rent both in countryside and seaside locations.
Local transport
Local bus company KTEL Milos operating services linking the main port town of Adamas with the capital Plaka and also Pollonia in the north and all main beaches (new air-conditioned coaches) regular frequent services during summer every 30 mins (or so!). There are also more than a dozen taxis on Milos and of course car and moped rental is available.
In general
The island has something for everyone from her amazing geology to her lengthy history and many wonderful beaches. Milos has a good asphalt road network and most main beaches can be reached by car or bus.  Organised boat trips taking in the coastline of Milos depart daily from the dock in Adamas (and are a must when visiting!).
