Greek Islands

Briefly

Ports – Marinas
At the tiny harbour of Alopronia together with the ferry not more than 3 or 4 yachts can dock at one time.
The time when the ferry passed only once a month is irretrievably gone. Now the island is connected with Santorini almost everyday.
Heliport
The Heliport of Sikinos is licensed by the Ministry of Transport, and is fully equipped.
Capital
The Chora of Sikinos is 3.5km from the port and includes two villages : the Chorio and the castle.
The Hotels

On the island there is only one hotel, the Porto Sikinos at the port, and some rooms and studios for rent.
Local Bus Services
There are no taxis on the island. The bus does the route Alopronia – Chorio – Diocese.
Other services

1 doctor (general medicine)
1 pathologist
a small hospital with 1 nurse
General
The Community of Sikinos has conciously decided to come together with a plan for the protection and development of the island by:
-conservation of the natural environment in a sustainable fashion
-encouraging alternative forms of tourism (eco, agro etc.)
-infrastructure improvement including improved living standards for locals (environmental protection, new technologies, daily living etc.)
A dark passage in the history of the island is the destruction of the cobble stoned traditional path from Alopronoia to Chora in favour of an asphalt road. This path alone would have been a strong selling point for Sikinos.
