Briefly

Ports and Marinas
Atheinio is where the passenger ferries dock (an unrelentless coming and going), also sailing boats and small yachts will "tie-up" here.
Warning:  there is no question of anchorage at this location as the depths are vast and rocky.  An alternative and preferable solution maybe for yachtsmen to anchor at the marina known as Vlichadas as the old port of Santorini (Yialos) cannot supply fuel.  Large cruise ships anchor outside the port of Atheinio and passengers are disembarked by locally provided small craft arriving at the old port of Yialos.  Visitors are then transported upward to the villages either by donkey or the aerial lift (telepherique).
Airport

Santorini airport receives international flights, located 2 kilometres from Monolitho and 7 kilometres from Fira.
There are no duty free shops although there is a mini-coffee shop and an automatic cash machine (ATM).
The capital
Fira is situated 11 kilometres from the port (Atheinio).
Local transport
Frequent bus services between all villages. (KTEL Santorini - local bus company)
Accomodation
There is an abundance of accomodation on offer covering all tastes and requirements.
In general
Santorini together with Mykonos are the most visited islands in the Cyclades (if not in Greece).  Between May and September the island is a buzz with travellers from all walks of life and from all parts of the globe.  In order to cope with the influx of tourists during the 80's and 90's construction did get a little out of hand.  Apart from the small overdose of new buldings the islanders have returned to their roots and are today enthusiastically marketing local produce in particular the delicious dried chick peas of Santorini (fava) and the excellent and now well acknowledged wines of the island.
