Gavras Tower

Amorgos Archaeological Collection
In the center of the Chora is the restored Venetian tower of Gavra, dating from the 16 century and holding in its halls the Archaeological Collection of Amorgos.

Finds from excavations in the archaeological sites of three cities of the pre classic period of the island, Aigiali, Arsekini and Minoa.

Sculptures, statues and reliefs, inscriptions, pottery and vases dating from the Archaic period (6th century BC) up to the Roman period (2nd century AD).

Also holding the archives of Emmanuel Ioannidis (1823-1906) the first to focus systematically on all types of archaeological, epigraphic and literary folk to create a museum of Amorgos.
